In the State of Connecticut it is the law to license your dog in the Town Clerk's Office of the town in which you reside as soon as the dog has reached the age of 6 months. All dogs are licensed annually during the month of June.  New licenses are available June 1st and must be procured in June or a penalty is imposed. 

How to RENEW Your Dog’s License:

If you would like to renew your dog’s license IN PERSON, please bring the following to our office:

  • Your reminder postcard(s) for renewing, if available.
  • A copy of your dog’s current rabies certificate if your postcard notes that the rabies date we have on file has expired.
  • Documents supporting any other changes (i.e. spay/neuter) since last year’s licensing.
  • Licensing fee (see below), cash or check (payable to “New Fairfield Town Clerk”).

If you would like to renew your dog’s license BY MAIL or VIA DROP BOX, please send the following to our office:

  • Your reminder postcard(s) for renewing, if available.
  • A copy of your dog’s current rabies certificate if your postcard notes that the rabies date we have on file has expired.  We will return all forms.
  • Documents supporting any other changes (i.e. spay/neuter) since last year’s licensing.  We will return all forms.
  • Licensing fee (see below), cash or check (payable to “New Fairfield Town Clerk”).
  • A self-addressed stamped envelope.

NEW Dog Licenses:

Every dog must be licensed when it becomes six months old and then annually in June.  Anyone who becomes owner or keeper of an unlicensed dog aged six months old or older must license the dog within 30 days of acquisition or moving to town.

  • Download and print the Dog License Application, one per dog.
  • All certificates need to be submitted to our office.
    • Copy of your dog's current rabies certificate
    • Copy of spay/neuter certificate, if applicable
  • Please include the appropriate fee (see fee schedule below) - check or money order made payable to “New Fairfield Town Clerk”.  Please contact our office if you’re not sure about the fee.
  • Self-addressed stamped envelope if licensing by mail or drop-box.

Please bring the necessary documentation listed on the application to the Town Clerk’s Office.  You may also request a license through the drop box that is located behind Town Hall, or by mail to:

Fees

Spayed/Neutered Dogs - $8.00 each

Non-Spayed/Neutered Dogs - $19.00 each

Late Penalty - $1.00 per month or portion thereof per Sec. 22-349*
Lost Tags, Town Change, Transfer of Ownership, Kennel: please call the Town Clerk

If you no longer have your dog or no longer live in town, please call the Town Clerk’s office at (203) 312-5616 or email townclerk@newfairfieldct.gov so we can update our records.
