Department Profile

The Building Official's Office works to promote the safety, health, and welfare of the public by insuring the State of Connecticut Building Code is adhered to properly, by the issuance of permits with follow up inspections.
The New Fairfield Building Official is empowered by State Statute 29-541 to enforce the State Building Code which includes issuing building, electrical, plumbing, heating and numerous other permits. Also included are plan reviews, field inspections, correcting violations of the State Building Code, as adopted by the town and state. Work done without a permit is dangerous and illegal and puts both the homeowner and others at possible risk of physical, structural, and legal harm.

Before starting a project it is recommended that you consult the local Land Use Department and make an appointment if necessary with the local enforcement officers so as to determine what might be required by the town and state.
